Jesus, Non-Violence, and Staying Alive
I am not trying to make a connection between the Sermon on the Mount and the Bee Gees. I am, however, wrestling deeply with the non-violent instructions of Jesus and how far they need to go in the life of the disciple. On one side I can say, 'Duh!...they are comprehensive and dictate action in every facet of the public and private life of the follower." Yet, on the other hand, I am faced with the real responsibility to protect my family from harm. If it were just me, it would be easy for me to say, "I will just trust my safety and life to God." But it is not that easy when others are relying on you to protect them.
